Recently I realised I needed to freshen up my couch. In the three years since I moved into my apartment, I’d vacuumed it plenty of times but never gave it a deeper cleaning. After seeing someone use a steam cleaner in a video on social media, I thought that this would be a great tool to try. I ordered one and when I got it and used it, I was very satisfied with the results.
The cleaner came with a variety of attachments and so I wondered what else I could wash with it. Turns out: almost everything. Walls, kitchen, bathroom and fabrics. From something I bought solely to wash one piece of furniture, the steam cleaner quickly became my favourite cleaning appliance.
What’s great about cleaning with steam is that the heat is enough to kill bacteria and remove even the most incrusted dirt. No harmful chemicals are needed. There is also no need of buying plastic spray bottles. Steam cleaning is therefore good both for your wallet and the environment.
There are of course a few downsides. Steam is hot so there is always the risk of burning yourself if you’re not careful. You also need to fill and charge the cleaner for about 4 minutes, so that’s not great if you’re in a hurry. But overall, I’d say the pros greatly outweighs the cons.
I wish I’d bought one years ago. Not only does it make cleaning much less of a chore but it feels good to know it’s helping me live just a little bit more eco-friendly.
